Dr. Jena Questen
DrQ explains the serious risks involved when giving intravenous injections to horses. Because the jugular vein is located extremely close to the carotid artery, precision is everything.
Watch to learn why proper holding techniques and awareness are so important when administering these shots. If an injection accidentally hits the artery instead of the vein, the drugs will travel straight to the brain and the horse will have a violent reaction. It's this reaction that usually causes the most severe injuries, to both the horse and the Veterinarian, not the drugs themselves. Horses can recover after several minutes but it is a dangerous situation for all involved.
Stay tuned to see more behind the scenes action! Every view and subscription helps our channel grow, which helps us earn donations and grants to feed the rescues at the ResqRanch, build an indoor arena, and support more horses at our forever-home sanctuary!
