Dr. Jena Questen

Today is the Traver's, a very prominent Thoroughbred horse race, and I am rooting for Napoleon Solo who I - correctly- picked as the best 2 year old in the Breeder's Cup last year. But more importantly, I am more worried about Sugar.

Managing a horse losing weight can be stressful, for those of you who have had to do it, you know what I mean. Extra feed, checking teeth, deworming, when you do all those things and they are still dropping weight you start to get really worried.

I am trying hard not to think about that maybe she is super sad about losing Dixie. Do YOU think animals can feel that much loss that it can change their health?

Fortunately a silly Chilli filly lightens the mood this morning. And thankfully, all the others seem to be doing great. We are getting low on hay as you can see, so get another deliver is also on my to-do list today. Proper care, and observation are key to keeping your animals healthy comfortable year-round. Please say a little prayer for Sugar today and I will keep you posted. With winter quickly approaching, it is worrisome indeed.

Today I am grateful For Chilli and her silly antics.

I am grateful the rest of the herd is doing well.

I am grateful for my awesome team that helps keep us going even when the internet goes out on a Saturday morning!

I am grateful for the beautiful sunrise.

And for last Thursday's lunar eclipse during the full Sturgeon moon which was spectacular and the clouds parted just enough for me to see it.

And I am grateful for all of the rainbows which came and went yesterday along with the gentle rains. Of course, we could use a little more rain, but, please nothing like the poor people of China and Nepal who have suffered immeasurable agony with the recent landslides after a collapsed glacier.

Sending them, and you, so much love today.

Remember, if you were lucky enough to wake up today, then you are important. And if you don't feel it, then you need to find some innocent animal to connect with today, who will be so grateful for the attention, it will remind you that you do matter. So give yourself a high five in the mirror just for showing up, because all any of us can do, is keep on, keeping on.
