Dr. Jena Questen

Hay horse lovers! Thanks for watching! In today's video, I delve into why an animal behaves the way they do, particularly in horse training. I talk about equine psychology and the importance of horse communication in order to have a deep relationship. If you are ready to elevate your bond with your horse, join my FREE Horse Relationship Building Masterclass at ResqRanch.org.

There is not one path to training animals to do anything. I see lot's of people who know nothing about training animals, who's animals are very well behaved, and it's because of their relationship. If you treat the animal with respect and kindness, then you ARE using positive reinforcement, whether you realize it or not. I have seen it come naturally to many kind people, who just naturally didn't want to dominate their animal, and in return, their animal behaved beautifully without any sort of formal training method being knowingly used. Now doesn't that sound like a magical thing? And if you want to see a video of this in action, check this one out here https://youtu.be/xZhNGzKrBEM

Today I am grateful when I did my morning walk through that everyone was ok this morning. I am grateful my ankle hurts less. I am grateful I have heat on this chilly morning outside. And electricity to turn on the tv and the lights. I am grateful I have running water and working toilets. I am grateful for lightbulbs and the fact my life is pretty easy compared to people who lived 100 years ago. Much to be grateful for.

Yesterday was busy at work with helping lot's of animals at Aspen Park Vet Hospital, many with more simple things like allergies and vaccines, and others with more serious things like pain and cancer. It was a long day and I did not get to spend much time with the horses. But today is Thursday and we will be training today. Although I am not sure exactly what we will get done since it is still pretty muddy out there. I might try to put the driving harness on Donkey. We shall see. In true positive reinforcement style, it will totally depend on who shows up for the session.

I feel good this morning. Like I had a good night's sleep and I am ready to face this clean slate of a day. What about you, Animal Loving Angel? Are you ready to tackle this beautiful day? What are you most looking forward to? Better yet, have you stopped for a moment to consider the best part of your day, yesterday? Mine was giving encouragement to a family with a dog named Duke Ellington who had been to 4 other vets this week, and been given lot's of uncaring information and little reason to hope. Will you be able to give someone else some hope today? How about yourself? Have you looked in the mirror lately and just looked yourself in the eye? Or better yet, smiled at yourself? There was a time I could not do it, I had so much self loathing. But I try to force myself to do it at times. It certainly does not come naturally to me, but when I do it, and I remember to give myself a high five, I can feel I am getting out of my comfort zone, and that is the only way to grow as a human.

So if you find yourself scrolling on YouTube looking for solutions to horse training problems, perhaps it is time to look inside yourself and realize perhaps the best method, is less force, less bits, less saddles, less ropes, and more freedom, understanding, and trust, in order to deepen your relationship without dominance, just love. And, it just happens to be the scientifically proven best, fastest, safest way to train any animal to do anything. How cool is that?!

So today, get out there my beautiful animal loving people, hug, love on, or just admire some wonderful animals, be kind to yourself, and if you want to learn about horse behavior and care to an entire new level, check out my class. But most importantly, be kind to yourself. you deserve it.
