Dr. Jena Questen

We had a great training day yesterday with Emblaze and Sugar. I originally wanted to train with Donkey and Sugar, but his hoof is still bothering him off and on and he was not in the mood. Then, I thought we might try Sugar and Natalia, the two blondes. But Natalia was being a little over excited for food and not really wanting to put in her best effort, while Emblaze stood expectantly at the side of the corral and whinnied for attention. So without further ado, we swapped out the two and proceeded uneventfully with the rest of the session.

We took them both for a walk around the property, and they both got their very first taste of green grass for the year! Then we brought them back and loaded them both into the trailer, closed the doors, waited about 5 minutes, and both stayed quiet and unloaded again without any issue. They both did perfectly. I am not too sure Sugar's arthritis is going to allow her to walk the entire parade route. But at least, I know we can get the job done with both of those girls fairly uneventfully.

Right now the jury is out on how this will go. Will we have horses at all in the parade or just a truck? Follow along and I will keep you posted. And plan to walk with us in the parade on Father's Day weekend if that sounds like fun!

Today I am grateful we had a successful training day yesterday. I am grateful we got an unexpected pleasant visit yesterday and made new friends that are involved with Rotary and had lot's of great ideas for fundraising for us. I am super grateful my ankle is definitely doing a little better and I am able to do some things again I have not been able to do for nearly a year, like sit cross legged on the ground without pain (well, less pain). I am grateful for the work day ahead. I am grateful for our awesome rooster who is such a good boy and we had a lot of fun training with him yesterday. He is very well target trained and goes any and everywhere we ask him to with the target. Finally, I am grateful for my family, y healthy, happy kids and my mother who supports me relentlessly in every way she can.

What about you, Animal Loving Angel? Who, and what, are you grateful for today? What are you excited about for today? How can you have more inner peace and joy in your day today? It all starts with you. You can create the day any way you wish. So today, I wish for you plenty of energy to get through the day, and lot's of kind, productive communication with all who you meet. And don't forget to admire cute animals along the way!

If you can, we really need to get our tractor repaired so we can clean the horse corral. Estimates are it will cost us close to $6,000. That amount of money is what we need to buy hay for the next 4 months, so we are in a pickle. Please come to our Kentucky Derby Party if you can on May 2nd, or at least check in on the livestream. And if you can at all donate, we sure would appreciate the help.

Have a great day everyone!
