Yesterday we had our power shut off because of the high winds, and it was terrifying. Luckily the back up for the Bearded Dragon enclosure worked, but the one for the fish did not. So I had to quickly settle the horses in early, and head to the city to a pet store to buy a battery operated air pump for the fish. Then I rushed back to set it all up, find the flashlights before it got dark, and get bottles of water ready in case we were out of power for days. In my head I was taking mental notes of how much gas was in the truck, how much water was in the troughs and how long would that water last, what the weather was expected to be like for the next several days, trying not to open the fridge and trying to think of everything I was not already thinking of, as quickly as possible without panicking.

Lucky for us the power kicked back on after a few hours, and stayed on, so all is well. It was like a little emergency drill, and I am grateful it is over!

Today I am grateful for power, flashlights, the invention of battery operated air pumps for fish (now we need to invent a battery operated heating source for reptiles), and that my kids, and animals, are all safe, healthy, happy and with the comforts of electricity today.

​So what will you do with today, you Animal Loving Angel? Look in the mirror and tell yourself you are doing great, just the way you are? Will you take some time to work with your horse in protected contact to test your relationship? Will you take the time to put some thought into what new behavior, or trick, you might want to teach your pet, think about how to do it, gather some tools (treats, toys, etc.) and give it a try? You know that doing so will strengthen your bond with your animals, and help make you a healthier, happier, you, too. And that’s all we can do, right? Just a little better and better, every day, in every way. Today I wish you the best day ever, so that when you go to sleep tonight, you will do so with a smile on your face, because you are so pleased with the results of this beautiful day.
