Dr. Jena Questen
Today I am grateful for waking up. For the beautiful sunrise. For clouds. For earth (can you imagine living on Mars?). For clean food and water. For birds. Birds are cool animals aren’t they? So delicate yet so incredibly capable.
What are you grateful for today?
When I was a kid we had a parakeet named Boobie. Don’t laugh, it’s German slang for little boy. I never bonded with him much. But then years later we went to the shelter and adopted 6 parakeets in one day. It was a hard time. It was after a particularly violent visit my children had at their Dad’s house when they were quite young. Social services and the police didn’t really listen or care that much. So my girls wanted a bird after that, and we took them all.
That was so fun to have those 6 birds in a big cage! But eventually one by one they all died until there was only one, the meanest one, Kiwi. We had her for 13 years. Who knows how old she was when we got her. We watched her get arthritis in her little legs, grow quieter, struggle to stand, and generally just wear out her tiny body. She even survived cancer. I did surgery on her for a tumor on her back. Finally, just a couple of months ago, she passed away.
It was sad to lose that tiny spark of life. Amazing isn’t it? How some little bird can mean so much. All animals really. All will give you that, if you get the chance to know them. Even a mean little parakeet that totally learned to trust us later on in her life.
Rest in peace little girl until we meet again .
So what about you today? Will you rescue a shelter pet? Will you spend extra time with the ones you have? Or just take time for yourself? Tomorrow is not promised. Better do something nice for yourself today. Don’t bother being sad no one is doing it for you.
Today, fly solo like a bird and do something special just for you, you deserve it Animal Loving Angel 👼. Have a wonderful day!
