Dr. Jena Questen
Hooray it’s Sunday! I hardly know what to do with myself, two Saturdays off in a row, already such a fun weekend and a whole day to go still. Super bonus, with perfect weather! I am so grateful for all of that! And that our Breeder’s Cup Event at the track was so much fun yesterday!
We got there around noon, and didn’t wrap up our barn tour with Stetson Rushton the trainer until close to 6:30 pm. He is a Thoroughbred trainer and has about 44 horses in the barn that he runs at mostly Fonner Park in Nebraska when they are not in Colorado. He did however, have one little filly shipped that morning from Remington Park in Oklahoma, which is the track where I got my first racing license.
We got to meet many members of the Rushton family, especially Shannon who is the general manager of the race track and his mom who was just the sweetest lady. Since the race we sponsored was the race they won, we were in the win picture with them all and congratulated them on the win. I gave all the little kids ResqRanch stickers, which is why in the win picture I totally missed the shot and was looking down, ha! Oh well!
I took lots of videos throughout the day, so I am looking forward to getting them all edited together and having the recap of the day ready for you for next Friday’s video, even with me not looking up in the winner’s circle. We also got so many cute pictures and videos of many of the horses behind the scenes, many of them were so loving and sweet and just couldn’t wait to get petted and scratched on and told how beautiful they were. That was probably the best part of the whole day if I am going to be honest. And the entire family is quite a story with their long history in racing. Here is an article about them https://www.denverpost.com/2016/08/05/rushtons-arapahoe-park/
I think it is important for people to realize there are real people, and families, supporting these racing horses. Not just a bunch of greedy ultra rich elites, or, worse, sleazy underhanded criminals who are horse racing. There are a lot of hard working honest people too, who just love horses.
Now that this event is behind us, it’s time to think about what is on the schedule for today. Like most people, it will probably include putting away the Halloween decorations. Maybe washing the sheets, cleaning up around the house. And then later, horse training, although quite different from what we saw at the track yesterday. Our horses are so spoiled and they don’t even really know how good they have got it!
Then time to wrap my head around the week ahead, the next events, getting video edited, hiring an awesome new front desk person. We are expanding our hours! After more than 4 years of not being able to get a vet to come and work for even a few hours, much less full time, we have finally, slowly found a handful of great vets. Therefore we are going to start having more doctors on staff, more days of the week, and we need great people to support them, who love animals, and have a deep commitment to integrity. So if you know someone, please send them our way.
Today I am grateful for our event yesterday, that all the horses and people were safe, that we also got to watch a bunch of cute dogs run around on the track too, that I got to spend the day with a group having fun and enjoying the perfection of the day, for all the staff at the track who were so professional and kind to us, and that the weather and everything was just perfect. You can’t ask for much more than that. I am also grateful after all that, I still get a whole entire day to enjoy, before going back to work tomorrow. I hope you feel the same way about your Sunday, and have plans to make the most of this beautiful day. After all, remember, if your life didn’t have a purpose, and a meaning, you would not have woken up today. So I urge you, to take a moment, right now, and just picture in your head the entire day ahead. What you will eat, what you will wear, how many times you laugh and why, and then imagine yourself laying down to sleep tonight, content, knowing you used your time wisely. And that you know you are getting a little better, every day, in every way.
Have the best day of your life! God bless.
