Dr. Jena Questen
It’s Halloween! Hooray! What are you going to do today?
Today I am going to be on Great Day Colorado on channel 2, Fox 31 at 9 am! Check it out! I am going to be talking about the Breeder’s Cup Party, as well as telling folks how they can get a FREE gift from our Shopify store. BUT you have to watch the show to find out how, so be sure to tune in if you can! And I suspect our few remaining spots for the party will fill up quickly after being on live TV, so if you have been procrastinating on signing up, I suggest you snag your spot now to make sure we will still have a spot for you! You can sign up here https://www.resqranch.org/breeders-cup-signup
The two days of Championship racing starts today! Safe trip ponies! My thoughts are with the 2 year old Ted Noffey who will this weekend be proving if he’s got what it takes to be in the big races next year. Speaking of young horses, yesterday the weather was beautiful, we had volunteers, and we got to do so much horsing around. Rhoen got some work in hand, over and around obstacles, to help rehab her knee. She has arthritis in her knee and makes it especially hard for her to pick it up for us to pick her feet. So working with her over low obstacles helps lubricate the joint and minimize her pain.
Sugar got a much needed bath. We have had her for several years now and she has always looked great, yet this year no matter how much we feed her she is thin. We have no idea how old she really is, since we rescued her. And because she never had good dental care her entire life, she has constant digestive issues, and on and off diarrhea no matter what remedies we have tried over the years. So she needs extra care to help her out when her little bottom gets yucky. And since the weather was so nice yesterday it was a good day to wash her messy butt. First I washed her with a bucket from warm soapy water I carried out from the house (someday we will have hot water in the barn), then, I used my Skin Booster to rub into the rest of the stuck on mess and, voila, within a couple of minutes all of the little dingles were soft and came out easily. DrQ’s Booster goes along with my Shoo Fly and Wound Care Spray. It doesn’t have essential oils in it for flies, but does have everything in it you need to get sap out of coats, detangle manes, and loosen up the toughest crusts on your animal’s coat to help keep them clean. We just love it. And between it and the spray, we don’t have any other products really in the barn anymore. These two cover all the bases of what we need, and I am proud to say they are organic, smell good, and good for you too. Let us know if you want either or both of these for yourself.
After that, we still had time to work with the wild girlies. So we spent a lot of time just grooming them (naked of course), then halters on with reins clipped on the side, then worked on targeting cones, stationing by the mounting block, and finally sitting on them bareback. Chilli has gotten so big, wow! She is like a big horse now! Natalia still has the slender build of a youngster and I have to be careful when she is moving around so I don’t get thrown off balance. But they both did perfectly! No bucks, anxiety, bolting around, emergency dismounts….they were very busy, of course, like youngsters are, but we kept them occupied with toys, and balls, and following the target, and just getting the chance to keep their minds busy while they just also happen to have someone sitting up on their backs, so they didn’t mind a bit. I constantly have conversations with them about how they are going to have so much more fun carrying a person around, how they will always do a great job taking care of the person they are carrying, and how we will never have any tumbles together for the rest of our lives. It’s worth a try, am I right? Slowly but surely, better and better, every day.
Today I am feeling optimistic. I have my GDC appearance today, it’s Halloween, one of my favorite holidays of the year. I got some good quality horse time yesterday, I have more help on the horizon, and my Breeder’s Cup Party tomorrow. I am so lucky and grateful for all that! What are you grateful for today? How are you feeling? I hope it's great! If nothing else, it’s Friday, always a reason to celebrate! Today is a gift, we are blessed to be here. Find joy in everything you do today. Smile, be kind to yourself. Choose to make the most of this beautiful day, this gift that has been given to you. Love and accept yourself just the way you are. You deserve every good thing this day offers you. Amazing things will happen to you, if you just take a moment to visualize, right now, what will make it amazing, so that when you go to sleep tonight, you will have a smile on your face because of how much fun you had today. This is my wish for you. Happy Halloween, have so much fun!
