Dr. Jena Questen

Have you seen that show The Good Place? I recently binge watched it on Netflix, because they were removing it, and my daughter begged me to watch it with her. It's a great show especially for young teens to watch, to learn about how to tackle many difficult ethical issues we all face, framed in a comical way.
I recently found myself feeling a lot like the main character, when she suddenly has the realization she is actually NOT in the good place, and with that discovers a new found freedom to accept and respond to challenges that come her way. My experience had to do with deciding to go to New York last week to the fish veterinarians conference. I had hoped to go all year long, and also hoped that just 'somehow' the ramifications of being gone for a week would all work out. From being able to keep a full staff paid despite the fact I am gone, finding vets to fill in for me and trying to convince clients it's ok to see them and not just me, and the ever threatening storm cloud of having the funds in the non-profit to purchase that next $7,000 semi load of hay that we will need in 4 months, whether we have the donations to cover it, or not.

The week before I almost chickened out with panic. And then suddenly, I had this thought. It's not like if I don't go, we will suddenly get a $7,000 donation. If I go, or not, that cloud will still be there, exactly the same. And how do I know? Because I have by now been around long enough, and had so many years of practice, to know to have faith in this fact. Because I have experienced it over and over again. And it's the gift of gaining wisdom. When you are young you worry and worry, but by now, I have some actual history to draw on to guide me, and I am so grateful for that, and would never go back to my youth and lose that wisdom. If I am living my life to it's full purpose, and following my heart, and pursuing my passions with a pure heart, everything will work out. It always does. And if you, or I, make decisions based on fear and lack, like I almost did, that attracts just more fear and lack, so I knew I had to just take a deep breath, trust, and go.

It was literally a miracle I was able to pay all of our expenses this month despite being gone last week. But that ok! Instead of worrying that was the case, I have to encourage myself to embrace that miracle and have gratitude for it! Full stop on any other negative thoughts.

Just like today. It's a Saturday and I have the day off. I literally cannot remember the last time I had a Saturday off that I was in town and that we were open for business. I feel a little lost. And guilty. I have to notice this, and take a deep breath, and choose to even more fully enjoy this day, and take a moment to visualize how I can make the VERY most out of it, and not worry about what it means for buying that load of hay. Instead I can create the affirmation that through expected and unexpected sources, I attract at least $7,000 into the ResqRanch bank account immediately, that I can keep and use to buy our next semi load of hay to feed the horses.

Today's video is a great example of how much they eat, and how spoiled they are! Most horse people do not allow their horses to get free choice food the way we do. Most horses get their little measured amount of hay dutifully twice a day. Just enough. Pish posh to that! Horses are meant to eat all day to stay healthy!
Fun fact, did you know horses produce stomach acid 24 hours a day? So if they don't have food in their stomach, they can get a stomach ache. And they are also one of the only animals in the world that can die from a stomach ache called colic. These are just some of the things you will learn in my new mini course for horses called Steal More Years coming soon! Hold me to it! I wrote this program 8 years ago, but didn't have the opportunity to share it with animal lovers until now. And guess what, if you are reading this, you are in on it! An insider who will get exclusive access just for being a subscriber to this channel and making comments on videos. I got my first dislike on one of my training videos! I wish I knew why so I could do better.
Today I am grateful for having the day off on a Saturday! I am grateful for having enough wisdom to help myself stay calm in adversity. I am grateful for clean, running water. I am grateful for the wonderful and interesting people I get to know through the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce, and I am grateful I went to New York and invested in myself and my family.

What goals do you have for today? What can you do today, to make yourself better and better, in every way. Remember we have to get out of our comfort zone just a little bit each day, to grow as a person in life. Will you get our of your comfort zone today?

An easy thing to do is to simply say something nice to yourself in the mirror. Whatever it is you need to hear today. Even if it's just to say "Hey, you know what? YOU are doing great!". I dare you to do it!
