Dr. Jena Questen
I am so grateful I got to be working from home yesterday, the first full day of the bitter cold. I checked on the horses about every two hours to make sure they were handling things ok and that the water heaters kept working. It has taken some work to replace extension cords, and reset GFI’s, and crack ice off faulty heaters to make sure the animals had access to water. I fed them more hay every couple of hours until finally around noon they all just rested, some against the house, some out in the front field, painfully seeking to gather every little bit of sunshine to suffer through. I am grateful the fillies survived their first full night wearing blankets, and they looked bright eyed and bushy tailed, and happy to have finally joined the ranks of the ‘big’ horses and get to wear blankets of their own.
I can’t say the same for Cesar, who somehow got his blanket off yesterday afternoon, and tore it to shreds out in the front field. Oh well. I found another one, a little too big, and he was happy to have a blanket back on. We also put a blanket on Sugar, although I looked everywhere and could not find the one specifically made for her body shape, so frustrating! So she had to also wear a blanket that is too big and hangs oddly on her body, but she was grateful to have it. I tried to see if Dixie seemed cold and wanted a blanket, but she stiffened up and gave me the side eye that screamed, you better not even think about putting one of those things on me! And she seems to be weathering the cold comfortably, so I didn’t even try to put a blanket on her.
I am also grateful I got a huge task off my to-do list yesterday. I gathered up and listed all of the continuing education I have taken (89 hours from mid 2023 to now) and lectures I have given. It took me from 8 in the morning until 7:30 at night to document all that. I was sorely overdue to complete this task, so it felt great to get it done. I have been invited to be a speaker at a conference in May, and in order to be considered I needed this complete. It’s one of those thankless tasks that gives no dividends but must be done regardless. I am so glad it’s done!
Today I am grateful I woke up early without an alarm. I am grateful my ankle seems to hurt less consistently and that tendonitis that started last year seems to finally be trying to resolve. And I am grateful so far so good. All of our preparations for the cold seem to be holding up and the animals all seem to be surviving it as comfortably as we can make it for them.
So now it’s time to focus on the day before us, this Saturday the 24th day of January in the year 2026, the only one of these days there will ever be in all of eternity. Hopefully our phones work better than they did yesterday. We had some difficulty with our phones not wanting to text or make calls. While I was working on collecting my data, I watched a video and learned about the Schumann Resonance, and a prediction for telecommunication interruptions based on solar explosions off the sun. What do you know! If this is something you are not familiar with, I am only just recently learning about it. It has to do with lightning in our atmosphere, as well as solar explosions off the sun and tracked by NOAA, and how they impact earth’s atmosphere. Fascinating for sure! Isn’t it hard to comprehend when you learn about something so completely different and new, yet completely true and real?
It is a lot like positive reinforcement and when I first learned about it. And then, once you know, you know. And now it also makes sense why the phones would not work yesterday! So if you love animals and you are ready to learn something new, now is your chance to get an education in animal training through my FREE online community on the ResqRanch homepage. Remember, no catch, no gimmimmick’s, just a ton of online learning about positive reinforcement animal training that I am giving away to you as my gift for 2026, the year of the horse. If it’s not enticing to you, but you know someone who would love it, please share this information with them. Any animal nerd is going to absolutely fall in love with all of the information and learnings within the course.
So how will you make the most of this new, beautiful day? Today, have fun! Carve out some time to be in the moment, on this day. Your life is a miracle. Hold gratitude in your heart. If gratefulness fuels all of your actions on this day, it will bring you closer to all the abundance and joy you seek. So laugh, dance, have fun, and don’t worry, all is as it should be, you are enough, and know that if you woke up today, your life has a purpose, and a meaning.
Thank you for being here, you Animal Loving Angel, today I hope you will have a day that puts the biggest smile on your face when you go to sleep tonight. Happy Saturday to you!
