As a veterinarian and a trainer, I’m always looking for ways to bridge the gap between medicine and behavior. So much of what we do to help our animals heal relies on their trust and cooperation. That’s why I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of an upcoming virtual event that dives deep into a topic I’m incredibly passionate about: Positive Reinforcement (R+) applications in therapeutic settings.
Many of you know that positive reinforcement is the cornerstone of all the work we do at the ResqRanch. It’s how we reach the hearts and minds of rescued mustangs and help them learn to trust again. But its application goes far beyond the training arena. It’s a powerful tool in veterinary medicine and rehabilitation.
I’m excited to invite you to join me for a special "Community Gathering" hosted by VetCompendium. I’ll be joining my esteemed colleagues, Dr. Kevin Haussler and Dr. Barbara Parks, for a live conversation about this very topic.
Event: R+ Applications in Therapeutic Settings
Date: Thursday, July 31, 2025
Time: 5:00 PM EDT (That's 3:00 PM my time here in the mountains!)
Format: Live on Zoom
This will be a one-hour conversation where we'll explore the science and history behind positive reinforcement and its growing role in the equine world. We'll discuss how we use it for everything from cooperative care during vet exams to targeted exercises in physical therapy. The goal is always to empower our horses, reduce their stress, and improve their overall well-being and recovery.
After our discussion, we'll open the floor for a 30-minute Q&A with all of you. I truly believe the best learning happens when we share our experiences and questions, so I can’t wait to hear from you.
Whether you're a fellow vet, a trainer, a dedicated horse owner, or just curious about how we can create more positive interactions with our animals, this conversation is for you.
Registration is just $20, and you'll have access to the replay for life, so you can revisit the material anytime.

I believe that understanding and using positive reinforcement is one of the kindest and most effective things we can do for our animal partners. It transforms our relationship with them from one of compliance to one of true partnership.
Hope to "see" you there!
Warmly,
Dr. Q
